Females:

Amaya
Amaya is a 3 year old very light black and tan girl. She likes all people, and she is learning to play with other dogs. She does not like cats… well, she does like cats, but too much! Amaya enjoys playing with toys, and she has lots of energy. Amaya would do well with an active family. As we get to know more about Amaya, we’ll update her bio.

Adopt!

Betty Boop - ADOPTION PENDING!
Betty Boop is a pretty Black and Tan female approx. six years old but is still very spunky for her age.  She is learning to heel and loves to go on walks.  However, she tires out quicker than her "competition", Samantha G., so a half hour - 45 minute walk usually does the trick.

Betty can get a bit feisty (barky) at other dogs, especially other females, but is very easily corrected with water or a spray bottle.  She is extremely people oriented and loves affection.  However, her new owners must not give into this behavior.  Her new owners must first establish rules, boundaries, and limitations along with providing Exercise, Discipline, and then Affection (in this order).

Betty rides well in a car but we don’t know if she is housebroken although she keeps her kennel pretty clean so she might be very easy to housebreak.  She is also comfortable in a crate so crating her while housebreaking her would be recommended.  Betty most likely wouldn’t be good with cats as she gets very animated when she sees ground squirrels.

Betty’s perfect family would be a couple, retired or working that just wants a nice, mellow dog to hang out with.

Adopt!

Blossom
Blossom is a 7 year old black and tan female; weighing in at a svelte 58 pounds. She was surrendered to GSRNC following the death of her owner, who adopted her several years ago through GSRSF. So, once again, Blossom is waiting for her new permanent home.

Blossom is quiet, well behaved, and obedient. She does not run, bark, overreact or just plain make a fool of herself; rather, she acts like a Lady -- dignified, reserved and polite. She appears to prefer a calm and quiet lifestyle and home life. She enjoys car rides where she can sit while looking out at the passing scenery, with an open window for an occasional sniff. The hustle and bustle inside a store like “Home Depot” is a bit much for her as demonstrated by her desire to make for the exit as soon as possible. Trips to “Petco” however, are appreciated as there is much to sniff. Being a true Lady she appears to be house trained and has shown no signs of counter surfing, begging, or snatching of treats. She is currently polishing her sit, stay, heal and come commands while at her foster home.

Blossom will do best in a low to moderate activity home that lovers her often and spends plenty of time with her. She would be a great companion dog for someone who was home a lot of the time or could take her with them during the day.

Foster Home Needed! Cashar is living in a kennel and needs a foster home - won't you consider sharing your home with her for a while? fostering information

Cashar
My name is Cashar and I am approx. eight years old.  My brother, Dantes, and I lost our home when our owners were forced to move into an apartment.  Since they couldn’t take us with them, they took us to the Stockton shelter.  At first we were afraid but since we were together that made things a little better.  We were hoping that our owners would come back for us but that didn’t happen.

We weren’t used to a lot of things especially all those barking dogs but after a while we sort of got used to it.  I had heard that older dogs have a harder time getting adopted from shelters but the nice girl who works for the shelter decided to hold us for German Shepherd Rescue because she thought maybe they would give Cashar and I a second chance…and you know what?  They did!

We are now proud “residents” of German Shepherd Rescue and we are truly grateful to them for rescuing us and we hope to return the favor by being the best adoptees they’ve ever had.

Since Dantes and I are older, we don’t really need or expect too much from our new owners.  Quite honestly we were given a little too much food and not much exercise in our last home.  Dantes thinks that if we were two-legged we could’ve been candidates for the series the “Biggest Loser Couples”.   At first I got mad at him for thinking that but he’s right.

I know many people want to adopt younger dogs because they are afraid of falling in love with an older dog and losing them sooner rather than later.  But I hope there is someone who will give Dantes and me a chance.  I know it’s a lot to ask to be adopted together but I love Dantes very much and I don’t want to be separated from him.

Since we were outdoor dogs in our last home, we wouldn’t really mind if we were outdoor dogs in our new home.  The only thing we ask from our new owners is not to forget about us.  We love company and we love to go on walks.  We don’t have much energy to bark at other dogs and we can’t outrun a turtle so cats are pretty safe around us.

We hope to see you at Adoption Day.  We would love to meet all the nice people who come out to see all the Rescue dogs.  Maybe we’ll get lucky and get adopted quickly.  We would love to be a part of another family again since we miss our first family very, very much.

Foster Home Needed! Delilah is living in a kennel and needs a foster home - won't you consider sharing your home with her for a while? fostering information

Delilah
Delilah is a 2 year old all black female in a compact size. She is an adorable, happy, energetic girl, who likes other playful male dogs but probably not female dogs. She has not been tested with cats but seems to have high prey drive and with her excellent athletic ability and speed, could probably chase down small animals easily. Delilah is housebroken, likes car rides, and likes to be with people. She needs obedience lessons as she was one of about 30 dogs living with a breeder/horder, so never had enough one on one attention. Delilah is one of those small, intense GSDs who will always look like a puppy. An active family with time to devote to her would love adding her to their life. She can keep up with anything you want to do, she just needs some obedience training so her energy is appropriately channeled. Delilah is being fostered in the Fresno area.

Foster Home Needed! Eika is living in a kennel and needs a foster home - won't you consider sharing your home with her for a while? fostering information

Eika
Eika is a medium-sized, solidly built Red and Black female approx. two years old.  She was picked up as a stray in the Stockton area and although it was obvious she was being used to breed, she was never reclaimed by her owner.

As a girl always on-the-go, Eika needs someone who has knowledge in and desire for higher level activities.  She loves to go on long walks and runs, loves to hunt for ground squirrels, and is a fast learner.  She is great to walk on a flat choke chain, needs very little correction, has great eye contact, and is non-reactive to most dogs she meets.  She knows “sit” and is learning to take treats nicely.  Eika is very treat motivated.

Eika’s perfect companion would be an active, experienced couple or single person who can and will provide boundaries, rules, and limitations.  Cesar Millan’s philosophy of “a tired dog is a happy dog” and “Exercise, Discipline, and Affection” (in that order) is also a must with this girl.  We are unsure if she is housebroken but has been OK in a crate for short periods.  Families with young or small children would not be a good match for this young, energetic girl.

Adopt!

Mallory
Mallory is a very special girl, and she needs a very special home.  Mallory is about 5 years old, and she has a wonderful disposition.  But she has mammary cancer; at this time, she is pain free and med free.  Over the next few months, Mallory will begin to feel the effects of her cancer, but until then, we would like Mallory to have a rich life.

If Mallory were to have surgery to remove her cancer, the surgery would be very invasive and extremely taxing, and recovery would take many months.  At the recommendation of an oncologist, we won’t be putting Mallory through that trauma and stress.

Mallory is naturally happy, sweet and affectionate, and she has great house manners.  She would like a soft bed to sleep on, a loving home to live in, someone to share quiet times with, and someone to play with.  She asks for nothing except love; she is truly one of the most affectionate dogs ever to be in our program.

Would you please consider being Mallory’s special person for the rest of her short life?  If so, please call 1-866-savegsd and ask to speak with JJ.  Thank you.

Foster Home Needed! Melly is living in a kennel and needs a foster home - won't you consider sharing your home with her for a while? fostering information

Melly
Melly is 7 yrs, loves people and interacts with them very well, rides well in the care, is friendly but pushy with other dogs. She is confident and composed. She pulls on the lead, is quite strong and athletic, and would make a great companion who wants a strong-minded dog.

Adopt!

Misty
Misty is a very affectionate, people-oriented dog. She loves attention and following people around. She tolerates but does not enjoy being alone. She seems like she would be good with children because she loves people, is not a jumper, is not very interested in eating treats from someone's hand. She likes to play with other dogs but can bark at them when she sees them at a distance. Her favorite toy is the tennis ball. She is strong and can be willful, but she is eager to please and knows "sit", "stay" and "come" very well, at least in the house. Once outside, she tends to ignore voice commands and she can pull on the leash while out walking, only because her obedience training was never completed. Misty is crate trained and rides well in the car, one of her favorite activities. She would love a home with a family who will involve her in their life, who is home a fair amount of the time, and will take her to obedience training. Misty is being fostered in the South Bay.

Adopt!

Nakita II
Nakita is a very, very young/active/healthy 10 yr old female. She will dance and twirl when she sees you or if she wants to show off. Nakita is in amazingly good shape for a senior dog, and her coat is in perfect condition. She is a large female, around 80 lbs., probably American Show lines. Nakita's eyes are clear, her hearing is good, and she loves to walk or run a bit. She only has mild arthritis in one rear leg, othewise he muscle tone is good and her gait is really good! Nakita will also lay quietly during the day while you are gone or by your feet. She clearly was well cared for. Her owner surrendered her to the shelter because she could not care for her. Nakita would be best as an only dog, we don't know about cats. She is housebroken and quiet. Senior dogs just need a warm , soft bed and a gentle hand. They will give you love back 10 times over for just a place to live out their lives. Nakita is in foster care in Alameda.

Adopt!

Calvin
Calvin is a 3 year old very loving and happy male who appears to have been left on his own without much if any training. He happily greets everyone he meets and thinks every command means rolling over on your back. Calvin is sensitive and sometimes still thinks when you call him it must mean he did something bad. He has become very comfortable in his foster home and is a very easy dog to have around the house. He can spend days alone while his owner works, but really enjoys being inside with the family when they are around. Calvin has strong prey drive and would not do well with cats. He has been respectful and friendly to dogs he's met, but will not be a good match for a dominant dog. Calvin did very well in his obedience class and seems to enjoy the mental stimulus it provides. He's a bit immature for a 3 year old but a quick learner. He would make a good family dog for someone committed to continuing his training, provide regular exercise and a loving home.

Adopt!

Clipper
Is a Black & Tan, approximately 5 year old male who recently had a mass removed from his left rear foot. His outer rear toe had to be amputated to remove the entire mass. He has a very happy outlook on life. He is energenic and already knows sit, down and stay. He is also crate trained and house broken. Clipper will do best in a family with no small children. He gets along with female and male dogs. He seems to be okay around small dogs as well. It is unknown how he is with cats.

Foster Home Needed! Dantes is living in a kennel and needs a foster home - won't you consider sharing your home with him for a while? fostering information

Dantes
My name is Dantes and I am approx. 9-10 years old.  My sister, Cashar, and I lost our home when our owners were forced to move into an apartment.  Since they couldn’t take us with them, they took us to the Stockton shelter.  At first we were afraid but since we were together that made things a little better.  We were hoping that our owners would come back for us but that didn’t happen.

Adopt!

Dawson
Dawson is about 2-3 yrs old. He has a very soft, gentle nature and is about 72 lbs. We now have a better idea of his medical needs, which are much better than we first thought. GSRNC was called to help Dawson as he had been hit by a car and nobody came to get him. He had a fracture through is left hip. It has now healed and he does not seem to have any pain and he is able to easily jump into an SUV. He may or may not have arthritis in the future, we just don't know. We also thought that he had pancreas enzyme insufficiency, but we now know that he does not require any medications, and may never need them. He does need to be on Royal Canin for GSDs and some canned food, but he is doing very well on that alone. He is gaining weight and his coat is in great condition. Dawson is good with men, women, kids, cats and ok to meet other dogs. He would prefer to either live with a senior female dog, or as an only dog. Dawson walks easily on a flat collar, has great house manners, and is low/moderate energy. Dawson would most likely do well in a quiet type of home, as he is a quiet type of dog. He would be best if left alone less than 6 hrs/day. Dawson does guard his property and will bark at strangers and alarm bark appropriately for a GSD.

Adopt!

Demo
Demo (affectionately known as Crash in his foster hom) is a 13 month old black and tan pup. He is great with other dogs when meeting them off leash, but on leash he may be reactive and a little obnoxious. He has lived with many other rescue dogs (both male and female) and has done fine with them. He is a level 2.5 to 3. Unknown how he is with cats. He knows his basic obedience (sit, stay, down, heel, wait, leave it, drop it). He is housebroken, loves to ride in the car, has a terrific ball drive (although around other dogs, he is hesitant to drop the ball). Demo is great on leash and loves to go for walks. He loves to play with other dogs, but will sometimes plays rough. He also loves to be around people and would go everywhere with his foster mom if he could! He is past his puppy destructive phase and is not a digger or chewer--except for his balls which he sometimes destroys. Demo will be medum in size, reaching about 65 lbs. This dog has an incredilble personality; he just needs an owner who will be able to provide the exercise, discipline and affection he needs.

Adopt!

Erek
Erek is about 7 years old, was originally adopted from rescue and just returned due to the death of his adopter. He is fine with people but needs time to get to know strangers as he may initially bark at them. Small dogs and cats he is fine with in the house but he gets intimidated by bigger dogs and tend to bark at them. He spends his days in the house and in the backyard playing. Erek and his companion, Fergus the cat, play in the house. He goes in the backyard multiple times and plays. He does not play fetch but likes to play keep the ball away from you! He is very loving, loyal and is a protector of the home and sometimes he barks at dogs which he sees outside the window. He would be best in a home with people who are loving, patient and understanding as he makes the transition to a new home.....and a home with a cat would probably be fine.

Foster Home Needed! Guthrie is living in a kennel and needs a foster home - won't you consider sharing your home with him for a while? fostering information

Guthrie - ADOPTION PENDING!
Guthrie is a wonderfully sweet predominantly Black and Tan male approx. 5-6 years old who has had a very hard start in life.  In the shelter, he was very cordial, approachable, and friendly…a great all-around dog.  However, during his stay at the vet’s office the vet staff noticed that whenever Guthrie became anxious or stressed, he would start spinning in his kennel to the point that his pads would start to bleed.  Although he is getting better, Guthrie still has a tendency to spin especially when he hears people talking but can’t see them or can’t be near them.  Guthrie loves to be with people.  The staff at Lodi Vet adores Guthrie and they try to squeeze in visits as often as possible so he’s not so lonely.

Guthrie’s perfect home would be with a retired person or couple or someone that works from home most of the time.   However, working through his anxiety should also be at the top of Guthrie’s new owner’s list.  One way is to provide Guthrie with Exercise, Discipline, and Affection (in that order).  Cesar Millan’s motto is “a tired dog is a happy dog” and this should apply to Guthrie.  Guthrie loves to go on walks and is learning to heel although he could use a few more lessons.

Guthrie might be OK with certain female dogs as he was quite smitten with Makuna, a female GSD that was kenneled next to him.  However, he can be quite obnoxious when it comes to male dogs.

Since he was found as a stray we have to assume that Guthrie is not housebroken but he travels well in a car.  However, we don’t know what his reaction is towards cats or small critters.

Adopt!

Jackson Monterey
Jackson is a neutered male and I believe he is about 1 yr old and appears very healthy. He weights about 65lbs but looks like he still has some filling out and growing to do. He is a beautiful German Shepherd with rich, black & red coloring and markings. He is very sweet and affectionate and was very eager to bond with us. Friendly with people, he greets everyone as if they are a friend. He does alarm bark in the backyard however, so I feel he is well balanced in his personality.

Although Jackson is very affectionate, he can be a little needy at times and if not corrected to get back or lay down will persistently seek attention. However, this has calmed down a lot since he has been with us. As far as kids go, we have an 11 yr old daughter and there are no problems at all, but I don't know how he is with smaller children. My inclination is that he would be fine except at times he can be rambunctious and could therefore knock smaller children down.

He seems eager to be with other dogs and play. I have taken him to a couple dog parks and he did just fine with the larger dogs. I'm not sure how he is with smaller dogs or cats. He's doesn't seem interested in chasing a ball or fetching anything but rather likes to chase our other dog while he is fetching. Something he does that is really cute - he often crosses his front paws in front of himself when laying down.

It was not apparent that he had any training when we got him. Since then I have worked with him so that he can now greet us and guests without jumping up (except occasionally when very excited). He also knows the basics like "sit", "down" and "come". If there are big distractions like other dogs around he will come but it takes a little more coaxing. I do take him off leash almost every day to a big area and he stays in close proximity to me and will immediately come right to me if I call or whistle for him. Other commands he knows are "get back", "out" and "off.

In addition, he sits and will "wait", with his food in front of him, for the command to go ahead and eat. He will also "wait" at the back gate or front door while they are open until a release command is given before going out. He does know how to heel while on leash, but pulls a lot unless I have a pinch collar on him. One behavioral problem we are still working on is that when he is on a leash and he sees another dog, he will bark excitedly and pull to get to the other dog. Once he does get near them he tends to come on a little strong like he hasn't learned the proper dog greeting etiquete. When he greets offleash he is calmer and not so overwhelming. He also does not llike to be pulled by the collar.

Jackson is both an indoor and outdoor dog. During the day he spends some time with me in the house and either follows me around or will quietly lay at my feet while I'm working. He also spends time in the backyard where he is well behaved and generally quiet. If he does bark more than I like he stops once I tell him to "no bark". In the evenings he's inside the house with us, and for now sleeps in a kennal adjacent to our bedroom until I'm confident he won't get into any mischief. He is crate trained and kennels beautifully whenever asked. He is housebroken, however I don't leave him in the house unattended because he is still a puppy. I'm not sure he was housebroken when we got him or not. He had a couple accidents in the beginning but seemed to get the message this wasn't acceptable and since then I haven't had a problem. Outside on walks he is a little skiddish when cars pass by, but he loves to ride in cars and jumps into the back of our Jeep with no problem.

Jackson is a beautiful dog who is eager to please and be loved. Being very sociable, I believe he would do best in a household where he wouldn't be left alone a lot. He is still a puppy with a lot of energy, so he needs someone to take him out and provide regular exercise and continue to practice his obedience.

Foster Home Needed! Mickey is living in a kennel and needs a foster home - won't you consider sharing your home with him for a while? fostering information

Mickey - ADOPTION PENDING!
Mickey is a big and beautiful 3 year old German boy. His biggest asset is that he loves, loves, loves, loves people!

Mickey was an outdoor dog and learned to play with anything and everything; he’s a big bundle of energy, and he needs training and exercise. Mickey loves other dogs; he would love to have an active and playful pal. Mickey is a ‘project’ dog, but the return he’ll give his family will be most special.

Please consider giving Mickey a home to call his own.

Adopt!

Mickey 2
Mickey 2 is a 3 year old gentleman. He’s a quiet and calm guy with nice manners. He greets people nicely, and he won’t budge an inch if he’s getting petted. We’ll let you know more about Mickey as he settles in.

Adopt!

Miller
Miller is 15 mos old and as sweet as they come. He was surrendered to the shelter by his owner because they could not care for a big dog and in-laws were moving in. Miller is a small/med. size male with an super happy, outgoing nature. He is very submissive and wants very much to please. He responds well to light correction, and needs a gentle type handler. Miller has been an outdoor dog, so he is not housebroken yet. He is in good health, but owners said he is allergic to fleas, so he must have flea preventative all the time, along with high quality food. Miller is fine with cats, and OK all the dogs he has met. He wants to play with other dogs, and he loves people. This boy needs some training, but he will be a dynamite dog with just a little work and guidance. No harsh handlers for this boy, as he is "soft like butter!" He is new to the program, so we are just getting to know him. He must go to a home that will bring him inside with the family and make him a part of their lives. It seems he had been "forgotten" in his last home, as he was so dirty that he almost looked like a new dog after his first bath!

Adopt!

Foster Home Needed! Nandu is living in a kennel and needs a foster home - won't you consider sharing your home with him for a while? fostering information

Nandu
Nandu was found as a stray in the Calaveras area and was taken to the shelter. Because of overcrowding, not enough homes, and because his owner did not reclaim him Nandu was slated to be euthanized. He is now approx. 10 months old and although sprinkled with something other than German shepherd this little cutie-pie would make a nice addition to the right family.

Although Nandu can be quite loving and affectionate once he is comfortable with his people, he is still a bit shy with strangers. However, if he is ignored he will make his feelings known in a big way!

Nandu was fostered by a family who had a couple of GSDs and his foster mom owned a doggie Bed and Breakfast so he's had a lot of exposure to many types of dogs. He loved playing with his foster sister and brother and many of their four-legged “guests”. However, Nandu doesn’t particularly like overly rambunctious, obnoxious dogs, ones that get into his face and space, or ones that stare at him.

Nandu is OK on a leash but he likes to "daydream" so he tends to wander into your path. He is housebroken although he would need a refresher due to being kenneled and is comfortable in a crate. He travels well as he made several trips when he was being fostered in Orangevale to Lodi Adoption Day without any problems or car sickness.

Foster Home Needed! Otto is living in a kennel and needs a foster home - won't you consider sharing your home with him for a while? fostering information

Otto - ADOPTION PENDING!
Otto is a 2 year old male GSD. We will post more about him as we get to know him better.

Adopt!

Foster Home Needed! Pawz is living in a kennel and needs a foster home - won't you consider sharing your home with him for a while? fostering information

Pawz
Pawz is between 6 and 7 mos old. He is clearly from German show type lines. Pawz is confidant, outgoing, and has no "issues" that we can tell. He loves people, and gets along with the other dogs he has met so far. He is still very new to our program. It appears that someone must have bought him from a "high end" breeder of this type of dog, as his color, and conformation are good and what is much desired. It seems that he was not abused, and that someone did not do much training with him. Pawz should go to someone who has the time to devote to a large, male puppy. He is great to handle and show no fearfulness. He is going to be a large , male as an adult. He is going into a new foster home in Martinez, and we will update this bio as we know more about him. You can contact: dezmurray@comcast.net for more info. Please submit an application to GSRNC.

Adopt!

Philo
Philo, which means “To Love’, is a 4 month old German Shepherd mix. When he was three months old, he looked like a GSD, but at 4 months, he has begun to resemble a Great Dane. Philo was not socialized when we got him, but we’re working on that every day out in public. In his home, he is a very happy, well-adjusted, energetic dog. He is potty trained, will potty on command, is crate trained, and he is not destructive; he has very nice house manners. He enjoys playing with other dogs; he wants to play with cats that hang out, and he will run “with” a cat that runs. Philo is affectionate with those he feels comfortable with; it’s only a matter of time before he will love everyone with proper socialization.

He has very soft fur; it is German Shepherd short hair in parts, and medium long in other parts. (Perhaps his mom or dad was a long coat?) He has a skinny Great Dane tail with the short soft fur of a GSD. The fur along his back is moderate in length, soft and wavy. He has a GSD nose, and his forehead to the top of his head is Great Dane. At times his jowls also look like a Great Dane’s. His legs are looooong; he is already 23 inches at the withers, and he weighs 50 pounds.

It is imperative that Philo continue to get daily and positive socialization in public. If you’re experienced in socializing puppies, and you want a darling BIG puppy, please consider Philo. He’s a great kid, and he’s a lot of fun!

Adopt!

Foster Home Needed! Rith is living in a kennel and needs a foster home - won't you consider sharing your home with him for a while? fostering information

Rith
Rith is a big handsome black and red male, about 7 years old. He is pretty mellow and seems housebroken. He knows no commands, but is pretty manageable. He is a great walking partner. He is not a barker either, so would not be good as an alarm barker, but his presence would do the job. He is good with big dogs, but not with cats or small dogs.

Adopt!

Shiloh of Sparks
Shiloh is 5 yrs old and was an owner surrender from Sparks, Nevada (now if foster care in the East Bay). He has been in the same home since he was 8 weeks old. He was the apple of his mom's eye, and has been a perfect house dog. The owner's life took some turns and his mom could no longer manage to watch both him and a new baby, so Shiloh is looking for a new home. He has been very much loved and well cared for all of his life. He is a very tall, long legged boy and weighs 94 lbs. He is in excellent health. Shiloh loves to play ball, is a happy, outgoing dog, likes people and is fine to meet other dogs. His mom used to board him at a doggie day care place when she left on vacations, and he was fine with others dogs there. He is great on walks and on busy walking trails. He offers no problems toward other dogs while on walks. He would, however, prefer to be an only dog as that is how he has grown up. He has tons of personality and can play fetch all day long. He has excellent house manners and sleeps quietly at night. No children under 10 yrs old. His only bad habit is that he will greet anyone by jumping up and licking them on the face! He would be ideal for an adult home, or with older children and for someone who wants a walking partner. He also must have a home that also likes to play ball! (He also comes with all of his own toys and bed, etc). He is a nice blend between calm and playful, and he will keep you entertained all day.

Adopt!

Uno
Uno is a class Black and Tan male, who is about 18 months old. He was probably an outdoor ranch dog as he is comfortable and well-behaved around horses, llamas and sheep.

He is very social and loving both with people and other animals. He gets along well with other dogs. He will bark with excitement when he sees cats, but does not show aggression, just excitement. He likes swimming and laying down in a baby pool in the sun, plays respectfully with his foster sister GSD, and hangs out quietly in his crate in the house.

Uno’s ideal home would be a family with a nice dog to be a playmate. Uno is untrained in the home, but he is learning to relax inside. If he were to be an indoor dog, he would need constant supervision and training until he learned how to behave. If Uno is offered a ranch or farm-type life, he would do best with other animals as he is extremely social and wants companionship.

If he is going to be left home alone, he will need to be in his crate or in a secured yard/kennel because he will go looking for companionship from other animals if he gets lonely.

Vin Diesel
Hi, my name is Vin Diesel. I am a 5 year old, black and tan, big boy with big paws, and an even bigger heart, and I love to give kisses. I think I am a lap dog, and love extensive belly rubs. People, both small and big, are a joy in my life. I think they feel the same way when they meet me. My human foster brothers, 6 and 10 years old are crazy about me. I like other dogs, usually even small dogs, and might even like cats. My foster mom thinks I am the sweetest dog she had so far, and she has had some sweet ones. I am so eager to do what ever you want, but need some training to understand the commands. And I have to get rid of my elbow marks that show how much I was left alone in the past. As I have had some hardships in my life that were beyond my control, my foster mom wants a family for me with kids 6 years and up and/or another dog, simply dog-devoted people who will spend time with me, train me and exercise me and will be with me for the rest of my life. So if my foster mom seems to be picky, please don't take it personally, it's because she wants only the best for me.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT DOG DESCRIPTIONS
Please remember that the descriptions of dogs have been written by GSRNC volunteers and are usually based only upon our observation of the dog since the time it was rescued. While we try to provide dog descriptions that are fair and accurate, the nature of our work involves contact with dogs whose background and history are unknown to us. GSRNC cannot warrant or guarantee any dog's future behavior. For example, if we say that a rescue dog gets along with children, cats, or other dogs, this statement is usually based upon the fact that one of our volunteers has observed the dog interacting with his or her own children or pets. While this information may be helpful, we cannot be certain of how a dog will do with the children or pets in your home. If you are considering adopting, we encourage you to come to one of our Adoption Days and meet our rescue dogs. Ultimately, only you can decide whether one of our dogs is right for you.
